The Andean Collection

The Andean Collection is a member of the Fair Trade Federation but beyond that they have set up a non profit arm, Andean Project (AP), that is funded by a portion of sales plus donations. Currently, the AP pays secondary school fees for the artisans who create the jewellery and their children who live in the poverty stricken coastal and mountainous regions of Ecuador. The AP is also providing the artisans with comprehensive training programs and has plans to further develop subsequent programs on the cards.

Meet the Artisans

Ecuadoreans Olga and her husband Cesar

Before Olga was making jewellery, she sold grain at a local market and Cesar worked in a poncho workshop, often forgoing meals so their children could eat. Now they have consistent food and shelter, and are able to provide an education for their children.

From the couple:
“Our life has been difficult, but our children will have a better future, thanks to the people like you who buy our jewellery.”

Ecuadoreans Nancy and her husband Carlos

Nancy and Carlos create jewellery in their home workshop and hope to one day meet the people that buy their jewellery. The couple looks forward to their continued relationship with the AC to save for their children’s education.

From the couple:
“It fills us with great pride to know that our work is appreciated throughout the world. Thank you for allowing us to make a living from our craft.”

Ecuadoreans Viviana and her husband Christian

Christian and Viviana work from their home and provide employment for various members of their community. They look forward to growing their home workshop and investing in new tools.

From the couple:
“We want to continue working to increase the work opportunities and sources of income in our town, and to involve as many people as possible with a consistency we can rely on. This is our dream.”
