I’ve just stumbled upon fashioningchange.com a website dedicated to presenting eco-friendly & ethical alternatives to popular fashion brands that lack transparency in their supply chains and are yet to adopt practices that protect the Earth and human rights.
While still in BETA, the site shows a lot of promise. It’s refreshing to see a retailer calling out fashions big-wigs on their unethical and environmentally unfriendly practices.
Clean and easy to find your way around, you can shop by category, price, eco-brand, alternatives to big name brands, personality, occasion, plus others.
Shopping by “An Alternative To” allows you to select a brand name you like and see why they have made the naughty list of fashion brands. You then get to browse through eco / ethical alternatives in similar styles.
The “Wear this, not that” section presents a range of looks that feature for a week long period where 1% off purchases goes towards organisations working on human rights issues within the fashion industry.
Fashioning change does need to provide better information regarding shipping costs as it’s really not clear until the final stage of checkout but their customer service is pretty impressive. Within a minute of being on the site I’d been asked if I require any help via their chat service.
On a whole I think its a great initiative.
